Best default

Use cheaper models for repeatable first drafts, then escalate ambiguous, angry, high-value, or policy-sensitive tickets to frontier review or a human agent.

  • Measure cost per accepted draft, not cost per generated draft.
  • Fine-tune only after the support behavior repeats and evals are stable.
  • Keep frontier review for policy changes, refunds, risk, and unhappy customers.

Avoid

Do not replace quality gates with a cheaper model. Cheap drafts that require heavy rewriting can cost more than a smaller number of higher-quality escalations.
